1’30 2018 Canada, VideoLas Manos de mi Madre / My Mother's Hands was inspired by the women in my family — by tradition, folklore, and corporeal memory. Through the process and repetition of recreating and re-enacting a family recipe, cooking becomes a culturally infused method of making, practice, ritual, and evocation.
The act of cooking and eating transforms into an investigation of interpersonal relationships, colonial legacies, and hegemonic systems of education and thought — an inquiry into the formation of identity, and a means of accessing and communicating affect and memory.
